I’ve been struggling to decide what to write about since my last post. Everything feels urgent, everything feels important. Things are being destroyed and dismantled at such a clip that before you can even fully understand the effects of the latest gutting, another has already come and gone. The phrase “flood the zone”1 has been circulating to describe this onslaught.
Thankfully, among this deluge of headlines, there have been just as many posts and videos from disparate ordinary people speaking truth to power. This is not a fight any individual can hope to win, no matter how big your audience. We have to work together, each voice contributing where and when they can. Talk to your friends, talk to your neighbors, post online, whatever you can do. Together the will of the people will outshine and drown out the flash-bang cacophony2 of the Elon-Trump administration.
Here are just a few individuals and teams that regularly appear in my own feed:
Leeja Miller; A lawyer who thinks you deserve to understand the law and how it's affecting the world around you. While she takes a straight forward approach to explaining current events with a dash of humor, she takes no prisoners. Left or Right, you will be held accountable for your actions.
Legal Eagle; Also a lawyer! A practicing attorney with a team to support in-depth legal analysis of Trump’s biggest headlines. Providing sources and referencing actual written law and precedent set by past court decisions.
Parkrose Permaculture; Literally an ordinary mom who started a channel to make videos about permaculture. Things are so dire societally, she now creates content critiquing these issues (basically the same realization that drove me to make this newsletter)
Here is a videos of her’s a particularly like
These are just three examples of HUNDREDS of online people raising red flags, explaining confusing policies, linking together the snowballing effects of this administrations reckless actions, and ultimately fighting back.
"Flood the zone" refers to a strategy of overwhelming an opponent or audience with a large amount of information or actions, making it difficult for them to respond effectively. It is often used in political contexts to create confusion and distract from key issues.
Poetic metaphors are fun, although cliche.
